As a result of the growth of its business, Gruman felt the need to ensure secure internet access and to have an intrusion-proof internal network capable of covering the whole organisation.
TweetIn 2015, 58% of business computers were the target of at least one attempted virus infection (Kaspersky). New cyber attacks emerge every day, often resulting in the loss of critical data that can jeopardise business continuity. Discover how Openlimits helped Gruman to secure the company's entire technology perimeter.
"By understanding Gruman's needs, Openlimits was able to present a complete and effective solution for our company's digital security."
- Susana Amaral, Gruman
Gruman is a leading Portuguese company in the forestry and environmental sector, offering a complete, innovative and high-quality range of solutions. Headquartered in the district of Viseu, it has around 20 employees and its target market is the Iberian Peninsula.
As a result of the growth of its business, Gruman felt the need to ensure secure internet access and to have an intrusion-proof internal network capable of covering the whole organisation. There are more and more cyber attacks, on both individual users and organisations, and according to Dell's EMC Global Data Protection Index study, it is estimated that 7 out of 10 small businesses that suffer data loss close down within 1 year. Also, according to Gartner, 25% of PC users suffer data loss every year.
To meet Gruman's protection needs, Openlimits designed a solution that protects the company's entire technology perimeter and restores the company's critical data in the event of loss.
To secure the entire perimeter, Openlimits used Watchguard Next-Gen Firewalls. This technology provides network and corporate content security in a single device, ensuring in-depth defence of the business processes that depend on them.
Openlimits equipped the organisation with a Watchguard XTM 26 Firewall and a Watchguard Access Point 100. The former belongs to the Extensible Threat Management group (XTM and XTMv) and combines firewall, VPN and security services to protect networks against spam, viruses, malware and intrusions. The latter belongs to the Extensible Content Security group (XCS and XCSv) and defends e-mail and web content, combining this with data loss prevention.
To ensure the rapid recovery of critical data in the event of data loss, SkySafe was installed, ensuring business continuity. Developed by Openlimits and based on Microsoft Azure, SkySafe simplifies the management and monitoring of backup processes, ensuring the encryption, scalability and continuous security of critical data on computers and servers. Compliance with the legal obligations of the Portuguese Tax Authority (AT) regarding data retention and preservation (Order no. 8632/2014, point 3.1.3) was also ensured.
To strengthen the company's security, Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus was also used, which proactively identifies files at risk and blocks threats without affecting workstation performance.
A UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) was also installed, which keeps the company's IT systems running in the event of a power failure.
With the solution implemented by Openlimits, Gruman secured constant internet access through a secure connection, with no concerns about data theft or access to the internal network by unwanted external parties.
It ensured the protection of the company network, blocking traffic from unwanted sources, with features such as full inspection of HTTPS content and VoIP support, among others.
It also ensured that the whole company area was covered by a secure Wi-Fi internet connection and secured all of the company's internet connections through protection against mass malware, targeted attacks and advanced persistent threats.
Gruman is protected against data loss, as this technology makes it possible to back up all critical data in just a few seconds.
