TweetIn Portugal, 86% of companies expect to reach high levels of digitalisation by 2020. In the rest of the world, only 72% of companies have these expectations (PwC). At the conference "The 4th Industrial Revolution and the Modern Company", on 28 March, Openlimits and Microsoft explain how to ensure companies have the agility, flexibility and speed to face the new challenges of digital transformation.
On 28 March, Viseu will host the conference "The 4th Industrial Revolution and the Modern Company", an event organised by Openlimits and Microsoft. The day will discuss the profile of the modern company and how production management technology represents a competitive advantage for industries in Portugal, and will also present the Mistolin success story, a company ready for Industry 4.0.
According to PwC, Industry 4.0 relates to the "full digitalisation of physical assets and their integration into digital ecosystems with the various suppliers in the value chain". This revolution includes technologies such as mobile devices, IoT (Internet of Things) platforms, geolocation technologies, advanced human interaction interfaces, authentication and fraud detection, 3D printing, smart sensors, Big Data analytics and advanced algorithms, multi-platform interaction and customer profiling, augmented reality and wearables, and cloud computing.
According to the study by Cisco and the International Institute of Management Development, "Digital Vortex: How Digital Disruption is Redefining Industries", 40% of companies will disappear by 2020 because they are unable to adapt to digital transformation. The same study concludes that company directors expect substantial change as a result of digital transformation over the next five years, including shifts in market share.
The ability of Portuguese companies to adapt to this new industrial revolution is crucial, and according to the Global Risk Report 2017, presented at the World Economic Forum, one of the biggest challenges for Portuguese companies relates to investment in training human resources.
Alexandre Pinho, director of the enterprise and services division at Microsoft Portugal, argues that "we need to stimulate and promote a new leadership paradigm that does not merely recognise the importance of Digital Transformation, but embraces it as an essential and urgent factor in the strategy for growth and differentiation, making it an absolute priority in strategic investment and innovation plans".
These and other issues will be debated at the event on 28 March, which will place special emphasis on solutions that enable companies to deal with the new digital revolution, such as Office 365, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Microsoft Azure, Flow Manufacturing, Openlimits SkySafe and Openlimits Uplift. The conference will take place from 2.45 pm on 28 March at Montebelo Hotels & Resorts in Viseu.
